A bank robbery suspect was fatally shot by police in Plainfield, police said.
The incident happened just before 11 a.m. at the State Bank of Lizton at 2100 Stafford Road in Plainfield.
Police said two men were seen walking out of the bank with bags of money before they got into a getaway car driven by a woman.
After a short police chase, the car stopped. The suspects got out of the vehicle and police said the men were uncooperative when officers asked them to surrender. Shots were exchanged, fatally striking one of the suspects, officials said.
The other two suspects were taken into custody, police said.
"I think it was pretty well nuts. I never expected it to be in this neighborhood," said witness Timothy Morrison.
"Everybody is out working and really struggling for money, and for people to do something like that, that's so wrong," said witness Pennie Cowells.
Federal officials said banks in the area had been under ongoing surveillance after a similar robbery earlier this year.
The suspects' names were not immediately released.
