No arrests have been made yet in the deaths of four people found shot to death in a Bartholomew County home.

Sheriff Mark Gorbett identified the victims as 53-year-old Katherine Burton and 39-year-old Thomas Smith of Columbus along with 41-year-old Aaron Cross and 41-year-old Shawn Burton. Burton and Smith both lived at the home in Waynesville.

Gorbett says around 10:40 p.m., 27-year-old Daniel Burton had returned to his home he shared with his mother, Katherine Burton on East Main Cross Street and when he went inside, he saw two men lying on the living room floor dead from gunshot wounds. Daniel Burton then tried to get into his mother's bedroom, but was unable to do so. He then called 911 to report what he saw.

Bartholomew County Sheriff's deputies and the Indiana State Police arrived a short time later. Once officers arrived at the scene, they entered the home for a protective sweep, and saw another man in the living room that was also dead. After officers forced their way into Katherine Burton's bedroom, they found her shot to death in her bed.

Gorbett says Smith, Cross and Shawn Burton - who is not related to Katherine Burton - were found on the living room floor. Thomas Smith also lived at the East Main Cross address.

Officers then left the home and secured the scene for investigators to obtain a search warrant.

Autopsies are set to take place Monday in Seymour.
