Click It or Ticket Kicks Off Saturday
Indiana State Police and authorities across the state are stepping up road patrols.
Indiana's 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign kicks off Saturday and runs throught June 3rd. It's law enforcement's effort to get all motorists to wear their seatbelts. Sgt. Rich Myers says Indiana has 96% compliance with the seatbelt law, but they'd like to see that figure even higher. Last year, authorities issued more than 18-thousand tickets to drivers who weren't wearing seatbelts.
During that same time period, they report 170 crashes and a dozen fatalities and 91 ejections involving those who weren't wearing seatbelts. Myers says the penalty for being caught driving without wearing a seatbelt is $25 in Indiana.
