Race Fans Describe Their Indy 500 Memories
Indianapolis Motor Speedway evokes emotions and makes people ponder their fondest memories at the famed oval. Fans at Community Day shared memories of their own.
One fan said he recalled when he was in elementary school that he was going to his first race with his father, but it was postponed from Sunday. He says they ran the race on Tuesday, but he had to go to school, but his father had other ideas. He says his father told the school, we are going to the race today.
Many fans cited their first ever Indy 500 as their fondest memory. One fan said his was in 1959 when Roger Ward took home the Borg-Warner trophy. He says he's only missed one race since, and it was due to appendicitis.
