An Indianapolis woman is in jail after allegedly stealing nearly $200,000 from her employer.
Indiana State Police began the investigation after receiving information from TABS Distribution, Inc. which operates four Sun Spots tanning salons in Avon, Brownsburg, Danville and Plainfield. The employer noticed deposits made to the bank by 30-year-old Katherine Schiewer, the company's office manager, did not match the deposits she had received from the salons.
An internal audit conducted by the company showed Schiewer had allegedly deposited over $198,000 into her personal bank account from the deposits she received from the tanning salons. State Police say the thefts began in 2008 when Schiewer was promoted to office manager and became responsible for the salons' weekly deposits.
Investigators learned that a portion of the money had been used for vacations, Lasik surgery and shopping trips. Schiewer was arrested Friday and taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center.
Schiewer faces two felony charges of theft.
