West Side Warehouse 3-Alarm Fire

Firefighters continued to battle a large warehouse on the near west side of Indianapolis all Saturday afternoon.

The fire is at the Nationwide Recycling building in the 22-hundred block of Oliver Avenue, near Belmont and Washington streets.

RTV 6 reports the warehouse may contain tires, wood pallets and other materials. News crews on the scene reported hearing several explosions coming from the building.

Indianapolis Metro Police helped evacuate homes and businesses within a 5-block radius if the fire because of the heavy smoke.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries.

Hoosiers have reported seeing the smoke as far as Zionsville, Avon, and Fishers.

The fire was still burning as of 6pm Saturday.
