Child Drowns in Apartment Complex Pool

A six-year-old girl is dead after drowning in an apartment complex swimming pool Tuesday night.

IMPD Officer Kendale Adams says officers were called to the Lakeside Pointe at Nora apartment complex in the 9000 block of North College Avenue around 6 p.m. on a report of a child not breathing.  Officers and EMS personnel found the girl unresponsive.  She was taken to St. Vincent Peyton Manning Children's Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

An employee of the complex, who is also a pool monitor, found the girl at the bottom of the pool.  Workers pulled the girl out and began CPR until officers arrived.  The girl is believed to be a resident of the complex and recent arrived in the U.S. with her family about eight months ago.

IMPD is reminding parents to never allow children to swim without adult supervision.  They recommend swimming with a buddy and never go through any pool gates when they are closed.
