IMPD: Child Shot on City's East Side

A four-year-old girl is recovering after being shot on the city's east side Monday night.

Officers responded to Community East Hospital around 8:00 on a report that the child was brought in with a gunshot wound to her leg.  She was later transferred to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health for surgery.  IMPD Officer Kendale Adams says, at last check, she was in good condition heading into surgery.

Adams says detectives believe the shooting occurred in the 4100 block of Edgemere Court, near 42nd Street and Meadows Drive.  He says officers were originally dispatched to that location on a report of an injured child and were led to believe the child struck a parked vehicle which caused the injury.  It was only after arriving at the hospital that it was revealed she had been shot.

At this time, police do not have any information on what led to the shooting.  Detectives are still investigating.
