Indiana University Expert Weighs In On Weiner Scandal
An Indiana expert on culture, media and technology says politicians and celebrities on social media should be held to higher standards of conduct.
IU Professor Ted Striphas is speaking out on the latest sexting scandal involving New York candidate for mayor Anthony Weiner. Striphas says Weiner clearly has issues and is an extreme case of issues faced by society in general. Striphas says the Weiner case raises issues of privacy, personality and sincerity among others. Striphas says politicians are accountable to public trust and they make decisions that impact the general public.
He adds that society is still in the novelty phase of new media and it'll probably take another 25 years to adapt and adopt true behavior standards for new technology and social media. In short, he says everyone should think before they tweet.
