Summer Lunch Program Nears End of Third Year in Indy
As the school year approaches, a summer lunch program for low-income students in Indianapolis is winding down.
Food-services company Sodexo prepares 210 box lunches a day, through a partnership with the Children's Muiseum of Indianapolis. Sodexo general manager Lyn Allison says Gleaners Food Bank helps identify children in need at day-care centers and summer programs -- staffers with those programs pick up the lunches at the museum.
Executive chef John Jones rotates 10 menus ranging from pizza to turkey tetrazzini. He says he emphasizes fresh ingredients and multigrain pastas and wraps, to get kids familiar with what healthy food looks like.
Feeding the Future will close out its third Indianapolis summer August 17.
