Major Ramp on Interstate 69 to Close for Construction

Contractors working to improve Interstate 69 near 116th Street will be closing a major ramp tonight/Friday night as construction continues.

INDOT says the ramp from southbound I-69 to 116th (Exit 205) will close at 8 p.m. for up to 90 days.  Drivers on State Road 37 will still have access to southbound I-69 and 116th Street.  The official detour will direct traffic south on I-69 to the 96th Street exit, where drivers can return northbound on I-69 to 116th Street.

INDOT says the change will allow for quicker construction of a new southbound ramp configuration.  It's all part of Operation Indy Commute, an $18 million improvement project aimed to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

Milestone Contractors, the state's contractor for the project, says, weather permitting, the improvements to northbound I-69 and the ramp system at 116th Street and SR 37 are expected to be in its final traffic configuration by the end of this week.
