TV's "Cake Boss" has paid a call on Indianapolis -- kicking off his new supermarket brand with a big cake giveaway.
Hundreds of people began lining up on Monument Circle two hours early for one of 10,000 green-iced cakes with pink and blue flowers. A cheering crowd lingered two hours more to get their pictures taken with "Cake Boss" star Buddy Valastro.
Valastro's TLC reality show centers on his family-run bakery, Carlo's Bake Shop, in Hoboken, New Jersey. Kroger sponsored the cake giveaway to introduce Cake Boss cakes in their stores.
People in line weren't just dessert fans, but fans of the show. Tristan Wisda of Mulberry says she watches every day. When she heard Valastro was coming to Indiana, she persuaded her mother to make the one-hour drive. They came away with a cake apiece.
Other fans sing the praises of Valastro's craftsmanship in decorating his cakes. And Jennifer Taylor of Indianapolis has an additional reason to follow the show -- she lived in New Jersey before moving to Indy, and says her family still lives in Ridgefield Park, where Valastro went to school. She turned out for Valastro's photo op wearing a Carlo's T-shirt.
