Central Indiana School Hits the Varsity Football Field for the First Time
Friday night lights will be back in Indiana with the start of football season this weekend, and for one central Indiana team, it's a dream come true.
The Traders Point Christian Academy Golden Eagles, in Whitestown, will be making their debut in varsity football tonight against the Indiana School for the Deaf.
Head Coach Kyle Johnson says the plan began about 7 years ago when students started playing middle school football. He says his team is unique, in that the experienced players are the freshmen, and his few seniors have actually never played football. Johnson says no matter the level of experience, or what happens on the field, the entire community is excited.
The Golden Eagles will play a full schedule of 9 games this season, but they'll all be on the road. The team has only a practice field, but Johnson says they hope to have their own playing field in the near future. The Golden Eagles take on the Deaf Hoosiers at 7pm tonight.
