Marion Superior Judge Faces Misconduct Charges
A Marion Superior Court judge could be suspended from the bench while the Indiana Supreme Court considers misconduct charges.
The Judicial Qualifications Commission has filed 45 misconduct charges against Judge Kimberly Brown, accusing her of rudeness toward staffers and some attorneys, and of letting nine defendants languish in jail when they were supposed to be released. Some defendants weren't released for more than three weeks, including two the commission says should have been receiving mental health treatment.
The Supreme Court makes the final call, but the commission has taken the unusual step of asking the court to suspend Brown while the charges are pending. The panel says it sees no indication any of the problems it alleges are going to change.
