INDOT Assessing 65/70 Closure Traffic
INDOT Spokesman Will Wingfield says the first morning of the I-65/I-70 split closure went fine.
INDOT has closed the popular split for 59 days so that crews can work on the state's $12.4 million project to lower the pavement beneath seven bridges. In the past, many trucks have hit the bottoms of the bridges.
Wingfield says there weren't any major traffic backups due to the closure, but says the southbound I-65 and westbound I-70 ramp that exits at Ohio, Michigan or Fletcher was clogged. Wingfield says they saw backups there and that commuters cannot take that ramp system to continue on to 65 or 70. Wingfield says they'll have a better idea how things go after the evening rush hour Tuesday.
