The mom who took her daughter to Kentucky, resulting in an Amber Alert is still in jail but back in Indiana.
RTV6 reports Jennifer Ansari faces up to three years in prison and a ten-thousand dollar fine after she took her eight-year-old daughter Sophia from Fishers to Kentucky after learning she was losing custody of Sophia to the girl's father. Ansari was charged with custody interference as a result.
Ansari made a plea of not guilty by video link from the Hamilton County Jail. A report from the Fishers Police Department, obtained by RTV6, says Ansari's current husband, Suhail Ansari, told police she began throwing things around their apartment causing damage and said, "If I had a gun, I would shoot everyone in my family."
Ansari's attorney Matthew Lemme says there was never a question of Ansari taking her daughter where she couldn't be found.
"Jennifer went to her mother's house. That's where Jennifer said she would go, that's where television stations like yours reported she would be, and that's where she was," Lemme told RTV6. "She's trying to take care of her children. That's what she wants to do, and we want to get her home to take care of her children as soon as we can."
Ansari is being held on $500,000 bond. Lemme said Ansari is not a flight risk and asked the bond be reduced, but magistrate David Najjar said that was not under his jurisdiction.
