A woman is in the hospital after a serious crash Friday night on Interstate 65 south of Crown Point.

Indiana State Police say a large tow truck driven by 49-year-old Mark Rapo of Portage was southbound on I-65 about two miles south of the Crown Point exit when he attempted to make a left turn onto the interstate crossover.  Witnesses tell investigators a passenger car driven by 61-year-old Sara Bergren of Demotte hit Rapo's truck from behind.

Bergren had to be extricated from her car.  She was airlifted to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois with life-threatening injuries.  Rapo was not injured in the crash.

Rapo had his flashing emergency lights turned on when he began to turn into the crossover.  Police say he was going to a service call for a semi which lost part of its load about two miles north.
