A Center Grove High School senior has been selected to be a part of the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.
Alex Motsenbocker, a bass drummer for the Center Grove marching band, will be one of 125 students from around the country to perform in the halftime show of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas in January. Motsenbocker says he wanted to be a part of the band after seeing a former classmate of his do it the year before.
Motsenbocker says it was a tough audition process. Along with interviews, he had to submit a five-minute video to the National Association for Music Education which he says took about six hours to do. Motsenbocker was chosen out of 55 students for the bass drum position in the band.
However, Motsenbocker is not new to big events. He's performed at Disneyland, in the Rose Parade and was part of the 100-member drum line which performed with Madonna at the Super Bowl 46 halftime show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The students who perform in the band are selected not only because of their performance but qualities such as academic achievement, leadership abilities and community service. Motsenbocker says he's ecstatic to have been chosen.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be held January 4, 2014 in the Alamodome in San Antonio.
