Investigators have ruled the cause and origin of the Belmont Avenue warehouse fire last June as "undetermined."
Indianapolis Division of Homeland Security Chief Gary Coons says an undetermined cause is made "when the cause cannot be proven to an acceptable level of certainty or if multiple causes could not be eliminated." He adds the investigation will remain open by conducting additional interviews and following up on additional leads.
ATF Acting Special Agent in Charge Christopher Hyman says investigators determined the fire originated on the west side of the warehouse. However, he says a definitive finding on the cause can't be made due to the extent of the damage and the inability to eliminate all accidental or deliberate causes.
Over 200 firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze on June 15 for over eight hours before getting the fire under control. One firefighter suffered minor injuries. Damage was estimated at $10 million.
