American Bankers Association Speaks Out on Forced ATM Withdrawals
The American Bankers Association says banks cover the costs of unauthorized ATM transactions that are reported.
Washington-based ABA Vice President Doug Johnson says that includes crimes like recent ones in Indianapolis that involve bank customers being forced at gunpoint to withdraw money from their accounts. Johnson says the ABA doesn't consider the incidents "bank robberies" per se, but they are robberies that involve customers.
Johnson says the ABA is working on how to track ATM transactions that are actually customer robberies. He says the goal is to try to stop them in real time.
