Governor Pence says Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is flatly wrong in accusing Indiana of failing to provide ID's for same-sex spouses of National Guardsmen.
Hagel accused Indiana and eight other states Thursday of failing to issue ID cards to allow same-sex couples to receive benefits. He charges they're defying federal law and causing division in the ranks.
Pence acknowledges Indiana was slow in getting cards issued while it worked out how to do the job properly, but says the problem's been fixed for four weeks now. He says the state has written the Pentagon to set the record straight.
