Beech Grove Celebrating 'New' Main Street
The City of Beech Grove is celebrating a multi-million dollar revitalization.
Mayor Dennis Buckley and officials are dedicating the highly-touted Main Street Project this afternoon (1 pm). The $4.6 million project began back in March and includes a new bike lane, sidewalks, curbs, street lights, storm sewers, flower beds and benches in the downtown core. The Mayor says Main Street had a significant storm water issue that has been resolved. Buckley says they funded the project with a federal grant that required $1.6 million in local matching funds.
Buckley says the city once had 22 vacant buildings, but that number is now down to five. He says about a dozen new businesses are now in operation. He also credits economic development plans of ADM Milling and Citizens Energy Group with helping the city comeback.
