The cash registers have been ringing at the malls and big-box stores on Black Friday. On Saturday, it's the little guys' turn.

Listen:

13 Mass Ave stores in Indianapolis will offer 10-percent Saturday discounts, with bonus gift bags for the first 100 customers. The Flying Cupcake bakery will hand out miniature cupcakes, while the Crimson Tate fabric store will have sewing demonstrations.

American Express launched "Small Business Saturday" three years ago as a beachhead for independent merchants in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The credit-card company still offers a 10-dollar credit Saturday as an incentive to "shop small."

Mass Ave Toys owner Kay Feeney-Caito says Small Business Saturday has quickly become one of the avenue's busiest shopping days, along with Black Friday and last week's "Midnight Shopper" event.
