A Mt. Vernon man is behind bars after allegedly intentionally setting fire to his home on New Year's Day.

Indiana State Police began the investigation on the day of the fire.  Investigators determined that 25-year-old Jack Anderson allegedly strangled, battered and threatened his live-in girlfriend early that morning.  Mt. Vernon Police were called to the home but Anderson had left and his girlfriend did not require medical attention.

The woman left the home to stay with family.  Police say Anderson allegedly returned to the home and started a fire inside, causing extensive damage.

Anderson turned himself into police at the Posey County Jail later that day on charges stemming from battering his girlfriend.  He was arrested on charges of Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, Strangulation and Domestic Battery.  On January 10, criminal arson charges were filed against Anderson as well.

Anderson is being held in the Posey County Jail on $200,000 cash bond.
