Indy Snow Force At Work
All city trucks plowing non-stop
Indy Snow Force has been working on the roads since before the snow started falling.
"We had trucks out overnight salting streets and bridges, since we knew the snow was coming," said Lesley Gordon with the city's Department of Public Works. "We're now trying to plow and clear the streets, but the snow is falling pretty fast."
Gordon says unlike some of the previous winter storms, crews were able to pre-treat some roads this time because the storm did not begin as rain. All of Indy Snow Force's crews were called in, even before the amount of snow predicted to fall increased this morning. "We're constantly adapting to the forecast as it comes in. As rush hour gets closer, I'm sure we'll have some tandem plowing on major outbound thoroughfares to get those clear in time for a safe commute."
About 85 trucks are running for the city and county right now - normally, 90 trucks run, but Gordon says five are in for maintenance work, as the trucks have run more often than usual this winter. "This crew will be out all day and into the night until 11:00pm. Then, we'll have another crew come in and work overnight and into the morning."
