A pilot walked away from a plane crash today at the Marion Municipal Airport, according to Marion police.

A small, single-engine plane crashed at the airport just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday when it flipped over at the edge of the runway upon landing.

The plane ended up topside-down, leaving the pilot briefly trapped.

Marion police said the pilot was able to be extricated from the plane and walked himself to an ambulance, which then transported him to Marion General Hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

The NTSB was expected to investigate the crash.
