The doors were closed by the flu outbreak, but students are returning to two Indianapolis schools five days earlier than planned.

The Federal Centers for Disease Control say it's a milder case that feared at first. No longer is the CDC recommending schools be closed when students get the flu. The State Health Comissioner, Dr. Judy Monroe, says all Indiana schools are being advised to adopt the new policy.

So, teachers and staff are going back to work tomorrow at IPS School 60 and Spring Mill Elementary School in Washington Township. Students will return Thursday.

Marion County Health Director Virginia Caine says a student at Northview Middle School is one of the county's five new confirmed cases. Statewide, there are 12 new cases. Dr. Monroe says the median age is 17. Most of them, she says, are children and young adults. But Dr. Caine says Marion County has one patient over 60.
