Indiana State Police say scam artists are using intimidation to obtain personal information from victims in 11 states.

State Police Sgt. Rich Meyers says the scam begins with a phone call. The caller claims to be the jury coordinator for that particular jurisdiction and advises the victim they failed to appear for jury duty.
When the victim says they were not summoned, the caller asks for their social security number and date of birth to cancel the arrest warrant that had been issued for their failure to appear for jury duty.
Police say the information given by the victim is then used to steal the victim’s identity.
Police encourage wary Hoosiers to ask for the caller's name and contact information. By then, most scam artists have already hung up the phone.
