An Indianapolis man will spend 22 years in federal prison for robbing a restaurant in Lawrence.

31-year-old Adrian Sweatt was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to holding up a Steak 'n Shake and brandishing a firearm during the robbery.

U.S. Attorney Tim Morrison says Sweatt was tried in federal court because the crime fell under the Hobbs Act. The federal law prohibits armed robberies of businesses involved in interstate commerce.

Court documents indicate Sweatt admitted to robbing area restaurants on at least six occasions, but Morrison doesn't believe he will be prosecuted for those crimes on a federal level.

Once Sweatt is released from prison, he will also be forced to pay $1,441 in restitution.
