The Christel House Academy held a groundbreaking Tuesday for expanding their school on Indy's south side.

The expansion will be the Gus Watanabe High School, in memory of former Eli Lilly executive Gus Watanabe.

Mayor Greg Ballard says the Christel House Academy has been one of the top charter schools in the city, and the expansion can only help.

Governor Mitch Daniels says the expansion offers the students a unique opportunity to possibly allow them to attend the same school all 12 years of their primary and secondary education.

The site is being prepared now along South East Street. Students are expected to be taking classes in the new high school by August 2010.
