Committee Debates Property Tax Caps, Unemployment Tax
By Devon Scott

The debate over property tax caps and unemployment taxes continued Tuesday in the state legislature.

The State Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee heard testimony on both issues. This comes as the full legislature will reconvene in a little over a month.

One bill would delay unemployment tax increases on businesses until January of 2011. Proponents say the delay would aid businesses still hurting from the struggling economy.

The other bill up for debate would put caps on property tax bills into the state constitution.

Neither measure was voted on Tuesday by the committee. The debate will continue on December 8.
