The lead lawyer for a former state trooper facing a third murder trial in the deaths of his wife and children has withdrawn from the case because of family obligations and the demands of her law practice.

Katharine Liell of Bloomington took the case soon after David Camm's 2002 conviction in the September 2000 deaths of his wife, Kimberly, and their two children, Bradley 7, and Jill, 5.

She successfully appealed that conviction in 2004. He was convicted a second time in 2006, but the Indiana Supreme Court overturned that verdict last June.

A Warrick County judge has appointed Richard Kammen of Indianapolis to replace Liell. Attorney Stacy Uliana will remain part of the defense team.

A third trial date hasn't been set.
