State Encourages Local Tourism As Travel Warning Issued For Mexico
By Jill Sheridan

A travel warning is in effect for people headed to Mexico as thousands of spring breakers are headed to Mexican beaches.
Violence in the northern part of the country has been increasing recently, especially in a couple popular tourist spots like Tijuana and Matamoros. Two people with ties to the U.S. Consulate were murdered just across the Texas-Mexico border over the weekend.

If the warning prompts a vacation cancellation, state officials say there are still things to do in Indiana.

Curt Brantingham with Visit Indiana says the state parks are open. He also mentions other affordable ideas, such as casinos and spas.

If you are still planning to travel to Mexico the State Department advises using common sense precautions, such as visiting legitimate businesses and traveling during the day.
