The Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library is becoming a reality since finding a home in Indianapolis, the famed author's hometown.

The library's executive director, Julia Whitehead, says the group is leasing 40,000 square feet at the former location of the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art at 340 North Senate.

Whitehead said the offer to locate there was a pleasant surprise and one the group couldn't pass up.

The new library has the blessing of the Vonnegut family and plans to have an art gallery of Kurt Vonnegut's work, a room telling his life story and a gift shop.

An official opening date for the library hasn't been set, although Whitehead says it will happen sometime this year.

The Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library will have its first fundraiser on May 8 at the Athenaeum in Indianapolis, a building designed by Vonnegut’s grandfather.

Kurt Vonnegut, who became famous after the publication of “Slaughterhouse Five”, died in April 2007 at age 84.
