Indianapolis is getting greener as the city prepares to host the Super Bowl less than 300 days from now.
A "Passing The Shovel" ceremony was held Thursday on the campus of Arsenal Tech High School on the city's near eastside, marking the transition of the NFL's environmental program from North Texas to Indianapolis.
A burr oak tree became the 1,205th tree planted on the path to the Super Bowl Host Committee's goal of 2,012 trees by 2012.
Local environmental initiatives in Indianapolis are designed to offset the environmental impact of hosting the Super Bowl.
