Hotel Workers Protest Downtown

Dozens of hotel workers from Downtown Indianapolis' Hyatt Hotel demonstrated amid near 100-degree temperatures outside City Market late Thursday.

They were among Hyatt protests in nine other cities across the country.
Workers are demanding an end to what they call outsourcing, job cuts, low pay, dangerous workloads among other issues. They say they're required to clean up to 30 rooms a day which - they say - is nearly double what's required at union hotels.
Indianapolis workers say they're not unionized and want the right to organize and get collective bargaining. They say an increasing number of housekeepers and workers in general are faced with on the job injuries and have no recourse.
Workers say they're also trying raise public awareness about the stresses of their jobs as the public demands more hotel amenities and services.
