Downtown Already Preparing for Super Bowl XLVI
Indy's moment in the Super Bowl spotlight is nearly four years away, but the downtown nightlife district has already begun planning.
Within days of the Super Bowl announcement, people were trying to reserve tables for 2012 at the landmark St. Elmo Steak House. The restaurant tweaked its website to block reservations that far out. General Manager Chris Clifford says St. Elmo runs at capacity from open to close when the NCAA Final Four is in town -- he says the steakhouse will be ready to multiply that by two weeks.
Slippery Noodle blues-bar owner Hal Yeagy says he placed an order for a tent within five minutes of the announcement, in anticipation of a blowout tent party outside the club. He's already lining up ice and helium suppliers to make sure he's not caught short, and says he'll be trying to land nationally-known headliners for Indy's two weeks at center stage.
