Hagel: Israel Has A Right To Defend Itself

(Arlington, VA) -- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel insists that Israel has a right to defend itself. Israel and Hamas have been trading rocket and artillery fire all week. In a Pentagon briefing this afternoon, Hagel said the U.S. is making a strong diplomatic push to cool things down.
Violence between Israel and the militant Palestinian group has escalated since the recent murders of three Israeli teenagers and a Palestinian teen. In earlier remarks, White House spokesman Josh Earnest called Israel a key ally and cited an unshakable bond between the U.S. and the Jewish nation.
