Kerry Works For Truce As Gaza Death Toll Rises

(Gaza) -- Secretary of State John Kerry is continuing his diplomatic efforts in trying to negotiate a truce between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. The talks come as Palestinian officials said the death toll in Gaza topped 700 when an Israeli tank fire killed 16 people before dawn. An Egyptian official expressed hope that a humanitarian truce may go into effect this weekend for the Islam celebration marking the end of Ramadan fasting. Hamas Leader Khaled Meshaal said he is open to a truce, but only if Israel eased restrictions on Palestinians in Gaza.
