Obama Reaffirms Strong U.S. Support For Israel

(Washington, DC) -- President Obama is reaffirming America's strong support for Israel's right to defend itself.
In a White House statement, Obama said he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about doing whatever is necessary to minimize civilian casualties in the ongoing dispute with Hamas. Israel is continuing a ground assault in Gaza after more than a week of back-and-forth rocket attacks with Hamas militants. Israel has called up thousands of military reservists to back up the ground operation.
