14 Protesters Arrested in Downtown Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS--14 protesters were arrested and removed from a busy downtown Indianapolis intersection at the peak of the evening rush hour Monday.
They were part of a larger crowd blocking all lanes of Capitol Avenue at Ohio Street, outside the Indiana Statehouse. Using a loud speaker mounted on a patrol car, police warned that they would be arrested if they refused to disperse.
Five women and nine men who identified themselves as members of the "Poor People's Campaign" ignored the commands, still shouting chants about poverty and bigotry--and police arrested them for obstruction of traffic.
