$25 Million Hoosier Lottery Prize Awarded

The winning ticket was sold in Valparaiso. The family "loves Indiana" and the money will benefit causes they find important.

VALPARAISO, Ind.--The $25 million Hoosier Lottery prize was handed out in the form of a giant check, with that gigantic number on it, Thursday, said Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Sarah Taylor.

The ticket was sold at VGCS LLC, located at 1501 N. Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. VGCS will receive a $100,000 bonus from Hoosier Lottery for selling the winning jackpot ticket. The family is taking a $16 million lump sum payout.

The family's representative, Rebecca Geyer, explained the plans for the prize money.

"The family will prioritize using the funds for the benefit of their families and other causes they find important. The family loves Indiana, and plans to continue living here," Geyer said.

Geyer went on to say this is the first big prize the family has ever won.

"Before this came along, the most they had ever won was a 50/50 raffle," she said.
