7-Year-Old Terre Haute Boy Dies From Flu Complications

Jackson Pirtle passed away Friday morning at Riley Hospital for Children.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Another Indiana child has died from complications of the flu.

7-year-old Jackson Pirtle of Terre Haute passed away this morning at Riley Hospital for Children.

Jackson had been on a ventilator and a machine to pump his heart since being admitted to Riley on February 1, according to WTWO-TV

The boy's mother told WTWO that a swab taken January 30 tested positive for influenza B. From there, his condition worsened, developing into pneumonia and a bacterial infection that led to his hospitalization at Riley.

The Pirtle family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for Jackson's medical bills. You can learn more here

The most recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that 97 children have died from the flu or complications of the flu so far this season.
