Angola Man Hurt in Fall From Tree Stand

State Conservation Officers say the man wasn't wearing a harness when he fell more than 15 feet on Saturday.

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Another Hoosier is in the hospital after falling from a tree stand.

Mark Neuhaus of Angola fell more than 15 feet while climbing into his tree stand on Saturday. He was found several hours later by his brothers, who went looking for him when he didn't come home.

State Conservation Officers say Neuhaus wasn't wearing a safety harness.

Captain Bill Brown with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement division says that what happened to Neuhaus isn't uncommon.

"It is our number one hunting accident. About 22 people per year, as an average," says Brown.

Neuhaus is the second person to fall from a tree stand in Steuben County in the first two weeks of deer archery season, according to WTVB-AM

Neuhaus is in a Fort Wayne hospital with arm, leg, and rib injuries. He is expected to recover.
