Avon Police: Reported Child Abduction Was a Hoax
AVON, Ind. - Police now say the report of an attempted abduction of a child in Avon Sunday was unfounded.
They say the child who reported the incident admitted he was lying.
Officers responded to a possible child abduction in the area of Park Place, Harvest Ridge and Beechwood Farms Sunday evening.
After a search, detectives found a number of inconsistencies in the report that was made.
The child who reported the abduction later admitted that they had made it up.
The Avon Police Department posted the following on their Facebook Page when they realized the story was a hoax.
"Earlier this evening, our agency was notified of an attempted abduction that was reported in the Park Place neighborhood. Appropriately so, our agency called out several off-duty officers and a number of K9's with our agency as well as the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department. After an exhaustive search and conducting the scene interviews, our Detectives discovered a number of inconsistencies in the report that was made to our responding officers.
The child who reported the abduction later indicated to our investigators that there was no attempted abduction. We appreciate the community engagement in sharing our social media messages, and the willingness of our residents to help our responding officers who were asking many of you if you had observed an individual in the area earlier today."
