Bodies of DNR Officer, Friend Pulled From Pond at Madison County Campground

DNR officials say the two men who died were conservation officer Ed Bollman, 44, and Roger Chezem, 77, both from Anderson.

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. -- Sheriff's deputies have recovered the bodies of two men, including a DNR officer, from a pond at a Madison County campground.

DNR officials say the two men who died were conservation officer Ed Bollman, 44, and Roger Chezem, 77, both from Anderson. Investigators said the men weren’t related but referred to them as longtime friends. Bollman was not on duty at the time of the incident.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department says two men went fishing on the pond at a campground near Frankton Tuesday afternoon. Several hours later, a concerned relative contacted police after not hearing from either of them.

DNR conservation officers and the Union Township Fire Department responded to Camp Kikthawenund on West CR 500 North and found a hole in the ice on the pond. The bodies were pulled from the pond just before midnight Tuesday.

Bollman is the second conservation officer from Indiana to die this winter.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department is investigating the deaths.
