Bodies Found in Car Pulled From Frozen Allen Co. Pond

Police believe the vehicle had been in the water for more than 24 hours before it was discovered.

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. -- A car pulled from a frozen Allen County pond on Monday had people inside it, according to the Allen County Sheriff's Department.

WANE-TV in Fort Wayne says first responders were dispatched around 9 p.m. to the 5600 block of Hoagland Road, just west of US 27 between the towns of Hoagland and Poe.

When they arrived, they found a car submerged in an ice-covered pond. After first responders cut a hole in the ice with a chainsaw, divers from the Department of Natural resources hooked chains to the car so it could be pulled from the water.

Two people were found dead inside the car, says Capt. Steve Stone, spokesman for the Allen County Sheriff's Department. No other details about the victims are available.

Investigators believe the car was underwater for at least a day before it was discovered.

The investigation is ongoing.
