Body Found Behind Valparaiso School Identified as Missing Man

The man was discovered behind Flint Lake Elementary School Thursday morning.

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- The body found behind a Valparaiso school is a man missing since New Year's Eve.

Donald Gildersleeve, 59, was discovered behind Flint Lake Elementary School and Horizon Bank around 8:30 Thursday morning.

His body was found by a bank employee, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris told The Northwest Indiana Times.

Police, firefighters and local residents have been searching for Gildersleeve since he was reported missing Dec. 31. He was last seen Dec. 30 at the Burger King on Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso.

A statewide Silver Alert issued after his disappearance said Gildersleeve was believed to be in "extreme danger" and was without his medication.

Police are still looking into what happened, but say they don't suspect foul play. They won't know how Gildersleeve died until after the autopsy.
