Boone Co. Sheriff's Deputy Shot; Suspects in Custody

The deputy was shot during a police pursuit in Lebanon. All three suspects are in custody.

LEBANON, Ind. -- A Boone County Sheriff's deputy is in critical condition after being shot Friday morning in Lebanon.

Indiana State Police say the incident began when Lebanon Police officers noticed a wanted man, John Baldwin, Jr., while attempting to serve a warrant at a home on Yates Street.

When ordered to stop, Baldwin, 28, got into a car with two other men and drove away.

Lebanon police gave chase and were joined shortly thereafter by a Boone County Sheriff's deputy.

At around 9:40 a.m., the car stopped on Indian Springs Road and all three men got out and ran.

While chasing one of the suspects on foot, the deputy was shot. He is in critical condition at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. His name has not been released.

Baldwin Jr. got back into the car and led police on a wrong-way chase down I-65. Police stopped the car near the State Road 32 exit and took Baldwin Jr. into custody.

A second suspect, 21-year-old Anthony Bumgarht of Lebanon, was shot by police.

The third suspect, John Baldwin Sr., was on the run for roughly two hours, forcing Lebanon Schools, the Boone Co. Courthouse and other city and county buildings to go on lockdown. He was arrested shortly before noon and is now considered a "person of interest".

The Indiana State Police and Boone County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate.

This story is still developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
