Breakup Likely the Reason Behind 20-hour Stand-Off In Terre Haute

Mikey Reynolds killed himself after the stand off. He killed his ex-girlfriend beforehand who had just broken up with him, say court documents.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- A breakup may have been the reason behind a 20-hour police stand-off in Terre Haute this week.

According to WTHI, Mikey Reynolds shot and killed himself Tuesday afternoon, 20 hours after he fatally shot 40-year-old Amanda Kerns and wounded another man identified as Ronald "RD" Lawrence.

The standoff happened at Lawrence's home on Putnam Street, about one-and-a-half miles northeast of Indiana State University

Court documents say RD Lawrence told police that Kerns came over to his house to tell him Reynolds had threatened to kill her after their breakup.

Soon after that, Reynolds showed up at the house.

Kerns hid in the bedroom while Lawrence answered the door for an enraged Reynolds.

After a briefargument, Reynolds pulled out a gun and shot Lawrence twice. Another man in the house at the time, 44-year-old Tersh Scamihorn, fled in a truck unscathed, says Lawrence.

Reynolds then proceeded to enter the bedroom of the house where Kerns was hiding.

Lawrence says he heard several shots fired. Kerns' body would be discovered in the bedroom by police.

Lawrence was able to get himself out of the house where he was met by police and SWAT officers who got him in an ambulance to take him to the hospital.

Reynolds barricaded himself inside the house, which marked the beginning of the stand-off in which SWAT officers and Reynolds exchanged gunfire sporadically.

In the end, Reynolds shot and killed himself.

Lawrence is expected to recover. Tersh Scamihorn, who left the scene, is being charged with False Informing for initially telling police that he answered the door for Reynolds, not Lawrence.

Reynolds was familiar with police before Tuesday's standoff.

In 2000 and 2005, he was arrested for attempted robbery. In 2011, he served time for dealing meth and owning a gun as a convicted felon. He was released in 2014 and placed on probation, but was wanted for violating his probation in December 2017.

Reynolds' Facebook page says that he and Kerns started dating not long after his release from jail.

Kerns' Facebook page says that she end their relationship March 1st.
